Frequently Asked Questions
What type of cooking classes do you offer?
Kids Cooking Adventure LLC offers hands-on parent-child cooking classes for children ages 4–10, kids birthday cooking parties, and Spanish cooking experiences in the Des Moines metro area. Each class is designed to help children develop kitchen skills, confidence, creativity, and independence while creating meaningful memories with their parents or caregivers.
What can we expect from a parent-child cooking class?
Our parent-child cooking classes are designed to be a fun, hands-on experience where families learn, create, and connect in the kitchen.
Each class begins with our instructor introducing the recipe and guiding families through the steps. Children learn important kitchen skills, including measuring techniques, ingredient preparation, and cooking methods. The instructor demonstrates each step, then children and their adult companions work together to complete it before moving on to the next part of the recipe.
While waiting for food to bake or cook, families enjoy a fun game or activity designed to encourage interaction and strengthen the connection between each child and their adult companion.
Each class also includes a special cooking activity where children prepare something independently to surprise their adult companion, giving them an opportunity to build confidence and share their creations.
At the end of the class, families work together to clean the cooking space, then sit down to enjoy the food they prepared and celebrate their accomplishment together.
What ages can join the cooking classes?
Our programs are designed for children ages 4–10, but we are happy to welcome younger and older kids. Each class encourages teamwork, learning, and fun!
Do I or my child need cooking experience?
No experience needed! Our instructors guide families through each recipe step by step in a relaxed, engaging environment.
Where are the classes located?
Kids Cooking Adventure LLC independently designs and teaches all parent-child cooking classes, birthday cooking parties, and Spanish cooking experiences. Classes are hosted at the Culinary Annex facility in West Des Moines, Iowa.
304 5th St #102, West Des Moines, IA 50265.
When you arrive, the Culinary Annex is located at the end of the alleyway. Look for the black benches and oak trees to the left of building 304.
How many people are in each class
We keep our classes small and personal, with a maximum of 8 children and one accompanying adult per child. This allows us to provide more individual attention, create a supportive learning environment, and make sure every child has a fun, hands-on cooking experience.
Can we arrange a private cooking class or event?
Absolutely! We offer private cooking classes and special events for families, groups, and celebrations. We would love to discuss your ideas and create a fun, memorable cooking experience tailored to your needs.
To inquire about a private class, please use our Contact Us form and share your preferred date, group size, and any special requests. Private classes and events are typically booked at least 8 weeks in advance.
Private experiences are available on weekends and can be offered in English or Spanish.
Do I need to know Spanish for the sessions in Spanish?
No Spanish needed! Neither you nor your child need to speak Spanish to join. The instructor demonstrates every step so everyone can follow along.
The Spanish sessions are a fun way to hear and learn a new language while cooking, playing, and tasting new foods — no pressure, just fun and learning together!
Can you accommodate special dietary needs?
We are happy to discuss special dietary needs and will do our best to accommodate your family whenever possible. Please let us know about any allergies, dietary restrictions, or special requests when booking your class so we can determine how we can best support your needs.
